Wynn Fangmeier
Head Assistant Coach

Wynn Fangmeier wrapped up his career for the Vikings in 2004 after an illustrious campaign, earning two NAIA All-American honors in 2003 (8th) and 2004 (3rd). He earned the 2001 Central Regional Championship and captured back-to-back Great Plains Athletic Conference Championships in 2003 and 2004.


In addition, Fangmeier is a four-year letter winner for the Vikings. He is fifth all time for most matches in a career (172). He is currently third on the all-time career win list with 106 victories.

A native of Hebron, Neb., Fangmeier was a two-time Nebraska High School State Runner-Up for Hebron High School. He led Hebron to back-to-back Nebraska High School State Championships in 1998 and 1999.

Fangmeier finished up his degree at Dana College in May 2004 in Mathematics, Computer Science and Biology. He resides in Blair. Fangmeier currently works for Dana College Computer Services.

Ernie Abariotes

Ernie Abariotes is in his fourteenth year as a coach for the Vikings.

Ernie has spent a majority of his time looking over the Dana College wrestling program that he had once competed for and served as the commander in the head coaching position. He is responsible for producing the school's first-ever wrestling All-American, Virgil Watson, in 1979. Still affiliated with the program, he has spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach.

A retired teacher and wrestling coach with Tri-Center High School in Neola, IA, his teams compiled a 60-14 dual meet record and his 1974 squad finished as the Class A Iowa High School State Runner-Ups. He has produced numerous state placers and champions.

A native Nebraskan, he is a Dana College Athletic Hall of Fame member, a 2003 inductee into the Dana College Wrestling Hall of Fame and a member of the Nebraska Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Abariotes graduated from Dana in 1965 with a bachelor's degree. He currently resides in Blair with his wife, Marilyn, and they have two grown children.
